PLENARY 1:
Partnering with the Local Church – Mandy Reed, Dear Dinah, Founder and CEO
Mandy, the Founder and CEO of Dear Dinah, an anti-human trafficking organization, has mobilized and motivated more than 50 churches in the greater Dayton, Ohio area to get involved through hands-on and financial support of Dear Dinah. The Lord has established an army of like-minded churches to help build their community for service and to grow His Kingdom. Mandy will share her inspiration from the Lord, and will encourage you to take the steps that will challenge you to boldly ask, so that you shall receive.
PLENARY 2:
Unveiling Hidden Biases: How Perception Skews Security Reality in Medical Missions – Peter Morton, Founder, Morton Executive Decisions
In this interactive one-hour session, participants will explore the often-overlooked role of cognitive and perceptual biases in shaping security assessments during medical missionary work. Drawing from real-world humanitarian and field experiences, we will examine how confirmation bias, optimism bias, anchoring effects, cultural assumptions, and over-reliance on familiar narratives can distort the true risk landscape on the ground—leading teams to either underestimate dangers in seemingly "safe" environments or overreact in ways that unnecessarily limit life-saving outreach. Through practical examples, group discussion, and reflective exercises, attendees will gain tools to recognize and counteract these biases, enabling more accurate situational awareness, better-informed decision-making, and safer, more effective ministry in challenging contexts. This session equips medical missionaries to align their security perceptions more closely with on-the-ground realities, ultimately enhancing both personal safety and mission impact.
PLENARY 3:
Electronic Medical Records – Lori Most, Founder and CEO BackpackEMR
BackpackEMR has developed solutions for physical health centers in rural communities, and rural clinics that often have limited access to infrastructure, like consistent electricity and internet. Organizations spend months of planning, massive amounts of volunteer effort, donor money, and personal resources on medical trips overseas. And while in the field, clinics are still unpredictable with new volunteers, logistic challenges, communication complexities, and general unknowns that inevitably pop up. You should be able to trust that your patient tracking tools will ‘just work’ when you turn them on, and not have to worry about crashing apps, frozen screens, or the blue screen of death. Lori will demonstrate the BackpackEMR that focuses on app stability and reliability. You will have the opportunity for hands-on exposure to the electronic medical records device developed by Lori and her team at BackpackEMR.
