Executive Director Job Description
Hands of Hope Northwest

Summary
Serves at the direction of the Board of Directors, the executive director is responsible for overall management and daily operation of Hands of Hope Northwest and protection of the organization’s assets while ensuring compliance with board directives and applicable grantor, federal and state requirements. Executive Director reports to the Hands of Hope Board of Directors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
a.      The executive director is responsible for overall operations, asset protection, and marketing/public relations for Hands of Hope.

b.      Oversee all accounting functions including those necessary for auditing, budgeting, financial analysis, capital asset and property management, fund raising and payroll in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, and all other applicable rules and guidelines.

c.      Handles all aspects of human resource management for employees including but not limited to hiring and termination, developing position descriptions, applying board approved employee policies and benefits in accordance with federal and state requirements and all governing agencies, and regularly supervising staff.

d.      Handles all aspects of human resource management for volunteers, applying board approved volunteer policies in accordance with federal and state requirements, regularly supervising volunteers.

e.      Handles all aspects of gifts in kind from Hands of Hope to consignees oversees, including but not exclusive to contact, investigation, in country regulations, international freight forwarder, all paper work related to shipments and follow up after delivery.

f.        Communicate with other organizations throughout the country that handle medical surplus.

g.      Interact with gift in kind donors, such as hospitals, care facilities, rehab centers, retail and wholesale suppliers of medical equipment and supplies.

h.       Grant writing including the application process, the proper dispersing of grant funds, bookkeeping, and reporting.

i.        In conjunction with the Board of Directors, development of current and long-term organizational objectives as well as policies and procedures.

To perform effectively in this position, the individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

Management: Experience managing daily operations for non-profit organization(s). Ability to manage volunteers and employees for at least 2 years.

Job knowledge:  Understand the technical aspects of managing a non profit organization including knowledge of obtaining gifts-in-kind, fundraising, and working with international organizations in the delivery of medical supplies and equipment to consignees in Developing Countries.

Communication: Communicates effectively with multiple audiences using a variety of formats, including written communications, verbal presentations to the board and various local entities including churches, service clubs and professional organizations.

Dependability: Ability to meet deadlines and keep commitment(s) with both internal and external customers.

Commitment and Compassion:  Have both compassion and commitment to the work of Hands of Hope and the audience that is being reached by this ministry.

Physical requirements:  While performing the duties of this job, the executive director is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, speak and hear.  The position requires extensive computer use.  The position requires physically handling equipment for presentations which require the ability to lift 20 pounds. 

Traveling: The executive director must be able to travel to attend conferences, training and other events as required to acquire and maintain proficiencies and to present Hands of Hope to the community.

Computer skills: Ability to write reports, make presentations, and perform some data analysis using Microsoft Office applications. Expected to use email communication extensively.

Work Environment: The work environment is a busy office with an adjoining distribution center located in Nampa, Idaho.

Education requirement: An undergraduate degree or equivalent experience is required. Administrative experience in a similar organization is highly recommended.
